Abstract

For the numerical solution of Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problems, finite difference methods and Prufer methods are two kinds of popular methods. However, the conditions under which each method is more efficient are not obvious. The experimental results reported in this paper show: (1) The relative efficiency of the methods depend on the desired accuracy; (2) Finite difference methods, with correction techniques, remain effective even for eigenvalues with higher oscillation number.
